About my work

In this project I wanted to explore still life painting as a creative practice in order to look at symbolism and the wider meanings of object forms. I have been particularly focussing on the Dutch golden era of the 17th Century.

These exquisite oil paintings displayed the trappings of a new wealth and era of Western economic growth, but exclude the darker side of colonialism.
I wanted my painting and their frames to react to the theme of consumerism in a social context as regards to its negative impact.

Furthermore by adding the bespoke frames I have made from single use plastic I wanted to highlight the impact that by-products have on us and the environment.
